The Audi A1, a supermini-sized economy car which was first launched in 2010 at the Geneva Car Expo will soon be upgraded to the new 2018 Audi A1. The initial 3-door version and the latter in 2011 the 5-door version (called Sportback) are now in for a makeover. We have tried to put forward the most compact and well-researched piece regarding what to expect from the 2018 Audi A1.
2018 Audi A1 – Much-Redesigned Outlook
The new generation A1 will surely have a much-redesigned outlook and be more stylish than its previous version. The car will be larger in size, have more head-space, leg-space and be more luxurious due to the new MQB A0 underpinnings and superior interior technology. Some reports indicate that Audi won’t be going with a 3-door version for the new A1 at all. Instead, it has already decided to start development of the 5-door version for the 2018 Audi A1.
The Audi has done away with the earlier bubble shape of the car in order to give it a more aesthetic and charming unified body design. The new 2018 Audi A1 version seems to be aggressive in its design which is evident by the view from the front along with the exterior mirrors that have been set in an aerodynamic fashion. The front headlights are more angular in their shape and the two masculine air intakes present just below add to the evolutionary design when compared to its predecessor. Dynamic LED lights at the back will give the car a younger look and the up-market value it deserves.
The 2018 Audi A1 is believed to be a tech-savvy model which will feature a 12.3 inch Audi Virtual Cockpit, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto Smartphone Integration and Wi-Fi Hotspot. The changes of a more helpful driving feature are also there along with standard safety features. Some of them are satellite navigation system, automatic braking systems, sensors for rear parking, premium safety belts and a lot more is to be expected from Audi with this A1.
Engine Setup and Transmission
Though there is no official update from the makers we believe that the new A1 will get an update on the few engines of the previous version. The fuel consumption will be reduced and output will be increased with a lot of fine-tuning. There will be a 1.0-liter three-cylinder petrol engine, a 1.4-liter cylinder petrol unit, a 1.6 liter belonging to the previous edition and maybe even a new 2.0 and 1.5-liter petrol unit. There are chances of a 2.0 Quattro-equipped S1 turbocharged petrol engine. In the department of performance A1 should have a horsepower of more than 231 HP of the current S1.
The transmission specs should be either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual clutch unit. The Audi might also unveil a new version the A1 E-Tron. This is a concept car unveiled back in the days of the first A1, but it will be way costlier over the basic models.
Debut and MSRP
The Audi has not yet come out with either a release date or the manufacturer’s suggested retail price for the 2018 Audi A1. But is definitely going to debut in 2018 and you can expect a pocket-pinch of $25,000 to $28,000.
