Currently, in its second generation, this model will be redesigned and launched soon as the 2018 GMC Canyon. General Motors had introduced their pickup truck GMC Canyon along with its supposed twin Chevrolet Colorado in 2004, both of which have been hugely popular in North America.
Its main competition will be similar pickup trucks like Honda Ridgeline and Toyota Tacoma. In 2014, GMC Canyon was also introduced into GMC’s Denali family and therefore GMC Canyon 2018 too will be available in this top-of-the-line category.
2018 GMC Canyon – Drivetrain Configuration
The 2018 GMC Canyon will have two main choices for its powertrain. First is a 3.6-litre V6 engine. This is capable of producing a power of 305 hp and a torque of 269 lb-ft. Another choice will be the base engine, a 2.5-liter four inline engine capable of producing 200 hp of power and 191 lb-ft of torque. This unit is more fuel efficient. Both engines will have an 8-speed automatic transmission gearbox.
New GMC Canyon 2018 will have a towing capacity of 7000 pounds while payload capacity will be 1590 pounds. Acceleration will be good enough for a pickup truck, with 0 to 60 mph in about 9 seconds, while top speed is 100 mph. Fuel efficiency with the base engine is supposed to be 21 mpg and 28 mpg in cities and highways respectively, and for 3.6-liter V6, it will be 18 mpg and 24 mpg accordingly.
Design and Features in 2018 GMC Canyon
GMC’s newest Canyon will be a little different from its twin the Chevrolet Colorado. Even though it will be built on a GMT 31XX platform. Substantial use of aluminum and steel has been made for constructing the new model, making it lighter than its predecessors.
At the front, high-intensity discharge or HID LEDs have been used to make the headlights and fog lights too have been incorporated on either side of a large mesh grille. Chrome finished mirrors and 20-inch aluminum wheels give this pickup truck a stylishly rugged appearance.
As far as interiors are concerned, not too many changes are expected from its previous models. However what sets GMC Canyon 2018 apart is a combination of leather upholstery for seats with aluminum and wooden detailing for the cabin and dashboard. Giving it an unusually sophisticated look like a sedan.
Amenities will include GMC’s IntelliLink for infotainment, along with Apple’s CarPlay and Android Auto for smartphone integration. Other features like 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth connectivity, and climate control will obviously be present.
2018 GMC Canyon – Expected Arrival and Price
The 2018 GMC Canyon has 4 trim levels – SL, SLE, SLT, and Denali. SL being the base will cost around $22,000 while Denali, the premium model will be available for $45,000. Expect GMC Canyon to be out by early 2018.
