2020 Nissan Frontier Redesign, Release Date and Price

The new 2020 Nissan Frontier could be a star of the upcoming season. The truck will be redesigned. Among the many changes, we could see the new platform.

Don’t worry, the pickup is going to continue to use a BoF architecture. Other changes include changes inside the cabin and upgrade of the Pro-4X model. Finally, the new 2020 Frontier could become a diesel. But, this is only speculation at this moment.

So, why Nissan became so serious about this model? First of all, there is growing competition. Return of the new generation Ford Ranger is something to worry about. Toyota is preparing a diesel engine for Tacoma. Also, Jeep came back to the market with 2020 Gladiator.

Besides that, the last edition of the Frontier recorded more sales than Nissan Titan. Clearly, the Japanese truckmaker recognized a great moment to upgrade its pickup.

2020 Nissan Frontier Engines: Diesel?

The base models of the 2020 Nissan Frontier will be still equipped with a four-cylinder engine. This 2.5-liter displacement is not too powerful. Still, with its 150 ponies and 170 lb-ft of torque, it can tow 3,500 pounds. Also, you are getting a much better gas mileage than with a V6.

The larger engine is a 4.0-liter unit. Its towing capacity is 6,500 pounds. Not a surprise since a V6 boosts output to 260 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque. While a manual transmission is available with a smaller displacement, a 4.0-l unit comes exclusively with an automatic gearbox. Buyers are choosing between 4×2 and 4×4.

We can hear rumors about the 2020 Nissan Frontier Diesel. The truck could borrow an engine from its stablemate from other markets. Outside the US, Frontier is available as Navara.

However, engineers will have a lot of work to do before their engine meets all the requirements. So, we might have to wait for more time before we see a diesel engine for Frontier.

Redesign and Changes

Front fascia will get a new look for the 2020 Nissan Frontier. Thanks to the new platform, the entire truck will suffer more changes. Even if the mid-size pickup continues to use the same architecture, the redesign is on the way.

Other possibilities are to borrow an existing platform (for example from Nissan Xterra SUV) or to build a new one. The first solution seems to be a more likely option since Xterra is well-known for its durability and off-road capabilities.

And that is exactly where chiefs want improvements. The Pro-4X model is a truck you would like to have if you are looking for an off-road mule.

However, the arrival of new rivals, the 2020 Nissan Frontier Pro-4X will need improvements. A combination of a diesel engine and this set of features would be the perfect solution. However, Nissan can’t wait for the green light from EPA to launch this version. We will more probably see the Pro-4X with more features.

The price of the 2020 Nissan Frontier will depend on the number of changes. Well, upper trims will get more modifications, so their cost will oscillate. We believe the company will keep the base model under $20,000.
