The release of this SUV is not going to happen so soon, and we can expect it in fall this year. Even if it doesn’t come out then, more info will be available.

Competition

The situation in the compact SUV segment is very interesting. More and more companies are launching their models for this class. With it, buyers have a wider offer, so it is not easy to break through. The predecessors did it, so 2020 VW Tiguan is there to upgrade its position. Definitely, it is not going to be easy with Ford Escape and Honda CR-V. Lately, the growth of Kia Sportage should worry all the carmakers with long-serving crossovers in the segment.

2020 VW Tiguan Specs

The drivetrain of this VW crossover is its main strength. Reliable and durable, a 2.0-l unit can produce 184 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque. A 4Motion system will boost traction and balance, while the driver can select the most suitable drive mode.

Hybrid

The latest report is delivering the information about the hybrid version of 2020 VW Tiguan. It will use a GTE Active platform, but we can’t find more details about the powertrain or electric motors. Not only that engine room suffers changes, but also the appearance. From shape to body colors, the Hybrid version will be the most recognizable version of the compact SUV.

An in-depth review of the new Tiguan can be found on the SUV Trend site.

2020 VW Tiguan R Prototype

The VV Tiguan R version is being developed in parallel with the facelift of the regular model and it will be available in 2020.

So far, the 2.0-liter TDI with 240 hp and the 2.0-liter TSI with 220 hp are the strongest engines in this compact SUV. The use of the Audi-typical five-cylinder, however, eliminates for cost reasons. Nevertheless, the upcoming 2020 Tiguan VW R Compact SUV should be powered by a 1.8-liter engine with around 330 hp. It would be for 10 percent stronger than the Golf R, which has a power of 300 hp.

More about R version you can find at Auto Zeitung German site.
